Levitt Pavilion Pasadena is celebrated for bringing vitality and high caliber programming back to Memorial Park, which for decades was largely abandoned and a magnet for crime. Today, the free concerts at the restored WPA-era gold bandshell bring people together from both Pasadena and the greater Los Angeles region.

During the first half of the 20th century, outdoor concerts at the Memorial Park bandshell were a regular Sunday activity. But by the 1950s, Old Town—the commercial area surrounding Memorial Park—began to decline, nearby public transit was discontinued, and many residents’ homes were demolished to make way for a new highway. For nearly 50 years, visitors to the park remained sparse, crime ran rampant, and the historic bandshell went largely unused. It wasn’t until the early 2000s that local revitalization efforts—including seed funding from the Levitt Foundation to refurbish the bandshell and program 50 free concerts annually—served as a catalyst for change in Memorial Park.

Today, Levitt Pavilion Pasadena is a beloved community destination and presents a diverse range of celebrated musicians including Pete Escovedo, Billy Childs, Sarah Lee Guthrie and Jimmy LaFave and returning fan favorites Barbara Morrison and Vaud & The Villains and GRAMMY-winning artists like Mariachi Divas, Rita Coolidge, Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band, Jim Lauderdale and Quetzal.
